I am so happy to be writing this blog at home rather than in the hospital! Lots of good things have happened since my last entry. We ended up being transferred back to Mayo on Thursday as at the point going home on IV antibiotics was no longer an option. The antibiotic you needed to be on needed to be dosed twice a day. In addition we didn't think that it was worth placing a PICC line for a relatively short time of IV antibiotics. The team you had at Mayo was wonderful, especially Dr. Phil Fischer. He was wonderful and put me and your dad at ease immediately!!! Friday morning you underwent a repeat ultrasound of your kidneys and bladder and it was essential normal! This was great news as there had been a small concern for a possible abscess on your right kidney. Due to the normal study the team thought you could safely be switched to oral antibiotcs, which meant we could take you home! So less than 24 hours after arriving at Mayo we had you back in your carseat and on your way home. You had lots of visitors during your short time at Mayo, including Dr. Park, Dr. Zietlow, Dr. Heller, Ann Leland, Michael Conte, Diana Koepp and Liz Anderson. You were very popular.
Your first evening and night back at home went really well. Grandma Lynne and Grandpa Assad came over and your dad grilled. We had a lot to celebrate!!! You have to be on antibiotics for 6 more days. You don't mind taking it. We squirt it in your mouth from a syringe and have you suck your pacifier.
You will have to undergo a special test on Tuesday to check to see if the tubes between your kidneys and bladder are normal. You will then have to see a Pediatric Urologist.
Your Grandpa Bernie is also doing much better. He is no longer in the ICU, and is awake and has even stood.
Your dad and I are emotionally and physically exhausted after the week we had, but we are happy!!!
Enough about your infection! This week has had no effect on your development. In just the last week you have become even more interactive and you will now smile in response to us. You will also tract with your eyes. Last night we put your on your activity mat for the first time and you swung at the toys. It is so fun!!!
I bought you these pants, I thought they were so cute!
Dad enjoying some precious time with you! We were just glad to have you home!
Getting ready for bed!
I am so proud of you Mayabird. You have been so tough this past week. You continue to bring joy to everyone's life on a daily basis.
