Well my dear Maya you continue to sleep through the night. Last night you probably fell asleep by 10:15 and slept until 7! (well you woke up around 630 but I was able to get another half hour by giving you your pacifier). I feel so lucky, and I am hoping it will last because it is wonderful. I dreamed of this day when I would be up 2-3 times a night feeding you, but to tell you the truth a small part of me misses those early days where it was all about survival. I would be so tired that sometimes we would just fall asleep together in the nursery or I would pull you into bed with me and you would sleep on my chest. Yesterday morning we did nap together in the morning until about 10am. It was great. You were snuggled in my arms. I am getting sad that I have to go back to work soon and therefore trying to treasure every moment!
You definitely LOVE your pacifier. I would even consider it a mild addiction-he he! It is a good and bad thing...it is great because when you are fussy it definitely soothes you, but at the same time in order for you to fall asleep at night I have to put it back in your mouth numerous times until you finally fall asleep. In fact last night I looked over at you and you were fast asleep and the pacifier was hanging out of your mouth. It was hilarious. Grandma Lynne appropriately calls your pacifier "the plug"! But in your defense babies supposedly don't have the ability to self soothe until they are about 4 months of age. So this is your soother! My goal is to have you transitioned to your crib by three months of age. The pacifier is going to be an issue because that will require us to go into your room numerous times to put it back in rather then just reaching over! But we will figure it out!
We went on a run/walk with Jenny today! It was really windy out. I had you in the car seat and used the bundleme thing we got from one of dad's co-workers. It worked great! You of course slept the whole time-wind and all!
Right now you are "working out in the gym". You are multitasking as you are tooting, hiccuping, cooing and kicking your legs all at the same time! Well little one, time to shower. Love you more and more everyday!
Hi Maya,
Your cheeks seem to be expanding on a daily basis and are of course so fun to kiss! Yesterday you were kind of fussy and busy! Your Grandma Lynne watched you for 4 hours and you were high maintenance the whole time. I gave you your vitamin D for the first time. Hard to know if that upset your stomach and that is why you were fussy. I also just think you are getting more interactive and sleeping less. When you are awake you love to look around at things, and get a little upset if you can't focus on something fun like a light, the TV, or a mirror!
You slept through the night again last night, which was great. We then took a nap together from 630 to 9! It was nice. I had you right next to me in bed! As much as I love having you in our room my goal is to start transitioning you to your nursery in the next few weeks!
We were in Little Falls last weekend and you got a lot of Grandma Helen time, which both of you love. She just has a way with you! On Saturday the three of us drove up to Park Rapids to see the hunting shack. It was beautiful day for a drive and you were great in the car. Your dad was up there with Uncle Paul working on getting it wired for electricity. You were the first grandchild to see the new addition! On Sunday we stopped at the nursing home and saw Grandpa Bernie on our way home. He was doing well overall and was glad to see you!
Well, Grandma Lynne is here to watch you while I sneak off to yoga! Hopefully you are a good girl for her.
Grandma snuggling with you by the fire after a bath last week!
In your bumpo!
You were fussy yesterday, so I put your exersaucer together! You are still too little for it, but it was fun to put you in it!
After your bath last night!
Snuggling with Grandma this morning. This outfit was so cute on you, but of course you peed all over it while Grandma was changing your diaper!
The outfit Grandma picked out for you! This is one of the onsie's that was made at my baby shower!
Hi Maya,
You had your two month check up yesterday with Dr. Allen. You weighed 12.8 pounds. You have gained over 6 pounds since birth. Your weight puts you in the 90th percentile. You were 58.2 cm long or 22.9 inches. This puts you in the 75th percentile. Your head was 39.1 centimeter which is in the 56 percentile. Of course your dad is all worried now that you are going to have a small head like him! I told Grandpa this and he disagreed as he thinks you have a big head! I explained to him that all babies have disproportionately large heads compared to their bodies. Anyway, you got 3 separate shots in order to get all the vaccines you needed. You also had to drink one, which you were a pro at since you take antibiotics every night! You did really well with your shots. Of course you screamed right away but them settled down quickly. You were maybe a little more fussy last night, but mostly you just slept more than normal and ate a little less. The last two nights you have gotten up once to eat, but I will still take it!
I only have two weeks of maternity leave left and I am getting sad. I feel that we are finally settling in together and I am really enjoying you. You are so interactive! In fact if I don't hold you in a position that you can look around from you get mad! You love your swing because you can look at yourself in the mirror and watch the birds go around and around.
We are heading up to Little Falls this weekend to visit your Grandpa and Grandma Maurer. It will be great to see them. Your Grandpa Maurer is still in the hospital but is ready to go back to a nursing home as soon as they find a spot. It will be good for your Grandma to get some Maya time because you make her sooo happy.
I need to get better about uploading pictures into these entries...that will be on my list of things to do next week.
Oh this morning you decided to pee when I was changing your diaper (as you like to do in the mornings) This time you actually managed to get pee on the wall-so that was a first!!
Well I love you my little Mayabird! You are a little bundle of joy!
Your two month shot!
At your doctor's appointment! Soo chubby and cute!
Well you slept through the night last night in your pack n play! You did wake up around 3:30 but I put your pacifier back in your mouth and you fell back asleep! I have tried really hard not to read into things too much and look on the internet, but I did look up if it was safe for you to sleep in your carseat and of course there was a whole bunch of stuff about how it wasn't safe as it could cause respiratory issues....I shouldn't believe it, but regardless you slept well in your pack n play so we don't need to put you in your carseat!
You continue to grow everyday and are outgrowing your 3 month clothing! You still tend to get a little fussy in the evening. Mostly because you are so alert and you want to look around at everything. So if I don't have you in a position that you can see things you fuss! You continue to make lots of sounds! Chirps, squeals, cooing! I love it!
Today we are going to visit my friend Jill. She has 3 boys, one that was just born a month ago! It will be our first roadtrip in the van!
Tomorrow you have your two month check up and will get your shots....which I am not looking forward to! But you have already been through worse in the two short months you have been on this earth!
I am getting sad as I only have 2 1/2 weeks of maternity leave left....I know you will be in good hands...but they won't be my hands!
I can't believe it has been a whole week since I have written in your blog. We finally had a calm week as a family, which I welcomed. Your Grandpa Bernie is doing much better and your Grandma Lynne is recovered from her bout of salmonella. Your dad and I welcomed an unexciting week! You and I went for your first run in your jogging stroller. I bought an attachment for your carseat, so you get lots of neck support. Lucy also came with. You of course loved it and slept through most of it.
You continue to have episodes where I think you have an upset stomach as you scream a lot and act really uncomfortable. I think it is the antibiotics. We will have to see what happens when you switch from the amoxicillin to the septra. I am hoping it will be easier on your tummy.
The big news is that you have essentially slept through the night the last two nights. We are at the cabin right now and your dad is at the hunting shack. So it is just us and Grandma and Grandpa. You were fussy Friday night and you would not go to bed. I tried everything, shaking the pack n play, putting your pacifier in your mouth a million times, singing to you, rocking you, walking around with you, trying to feed you. But you were wide awake and would fuss when I laid you down in your little pack n play. So finally around midnight I put you in your carseat and put your carseat in the pack n play. I could then rock you in my sleep deprived state! You then slept until after 6 am! So last night I did the same thing right away and you slept from 10 pm to 6am. It was awesome. I am going to try not to get my hopes up though, as it may not last and may only be because you are in your carseat.
You are now fitting into 3-6 month clothes. It is amazing how much you grow and change every day. You have your two month check up sometime this week, I wonder how much you will weigh. I hope you don't get too fussy from your shots...
Well my love, I think you are hungry, so that is all for now. Love you!
Bundled up and ready to go for a walk! It was kind of cold at the cabin. Your hat is from the Sattlers and is so cute. Sometimes it falls over your eyes!
Cuddling with Grandpa!
It was a little cold for this outfit, but you hadn't worn it yet and it is soo cute! You wore it out to breakfast at the Montana and of course had a blow out and stained it!
Grandpa loving you. He likes to stick his big nose in your face and grunt and talk to you!
Amber and Drew got this for you. It is soo soft and adorable on you!
You got to see Grandma twice while we were at the cabin!
Your great Auntie Betty also happened to be there!
All snuggled up at the cabin! It was cold!
Hanging out with Grandma on the patio at the cabin!
Cousin Kimma came to visit!
I love this outfit on you!
The Monday before we went to cabin Tom and Corin came to visit with Ethan and their new addition Nolan! You weren't too excited about the picture!
You are cuddling with your dad right now! You love to snuggle up against his chest and he knows just the right amount of jiggle you need to fall asleep. I love to see the two of you cuddling!
You have had the amoxicillin the last two night and unfortunately I think your tummy is not liking it, as you have been more fussy than normal. You are also having a hard time breastfeeding. You don't want to latch on and when you do you only nurse for a short time and then get fussy. When you finally nurse for awhile then you burp it all up right away! I finally resorted to giving you a bottle of breast milk, so I could keep you in a more upright position. We gave you your antibiotics tonight with your bottle, so I am hoping that helps!
I put you in your jumperoo for the first time today. You are not quite old/big enough for it yet. But you loved it. Your feet didn't really touch the floor and you almost disappeared into it. But you loved looking around. I think you are really going to love it once you get a little older.
You are a lot of work little girl, but you are worth it! You are growing bigger everyday and learning new things and demonstrating new behaviors all the time. It is fun to watch!
In your jumperoo! I love you in orange!
You also had your first trip to Home Depot yesterday!
You are on your activity mat right now as I write this. You are kicking your legs a lot now so you like when you hit the toys and they make sounds. You are getting pretty addicted to your pacifier and tend to fuss when it falls out, so I am constantly putting it back in your mouth!!
You fell asleep on my chest today and then I actually fell asleep too, it was really nice! I am sure I will think back to moments like this and miss them! So I am making sure I appreciate them now.
You finished the antibiotics for your urinary tract infection yesterday. So tonight we will start on the daily antibiotic. I do think they have been a little hard on your tummy, as you have been a little more fussy than normal.
You are sleeping pretty good at night. Last night you went six hours. And the good news is that you can put yourself to sleep. You tend to have your most alert time in the evening and are wide awake!! I used to try to get you to fall asleep before I would put you in your pack n play but that was taking so long, so I starting just putting you in your pack n play awake. I have to put your pacifier in your mouth a couple times but then you fall asleep on your own.
VUR will now become a known acronym in our household. It stands for Vesico-ureteral reflux. You had your study today where they put a catheter in your bladder and then fill your bladder with a special fluid that shows up on an xray. They then watched on the xray as you emptied your bladder. This showed that not only did the fluid leave your bladder and go out your bottom it also went upward toward your kidneys. This is not normal. It means you have a problem where your ureters (the tubes that connect your kidneys to your bladder) and bladder meet. Because of this reflux you are at risk to have recurrent infections of your urinary system. There are 5 grades of reflux and unfortunately you have grade 4. This means you need to be on daily antibiotics for the next year in attempt to prevent further infections. They will then repeat your VCUG (vescio-uretero-gram) in one year. If your reflux hasn't improved you may need surgery to fix it.
Although your dad and I wish you didn't have any health issues, things could be worse! This is a treatable problem. You are not a sick kid, you are a healthy kid with a little plumbing issue! Hopefully you will tolerate your antibiotics, because you have to be on them for at least a year. You will be on amoxicillin until you are two months old and then you will be switched to septra.
I had my post-partum appointment today and everything looks good. Overall you didn't cause too much damage to my body! It wouldn't matter because it was all worth it!
As stressful and exhausting the last week has been, I am doing my best to try to appreciate all the "little moments" with you. Your smiles, when you get your arms and legs kicking, when you coo or make any other new and fun noises! I know you are going to grow up fast and I don't want to look back and think "I wish I had enjoyed the baby stage more".
Once again, you have been such a trooper through all of this and I am so proud and impressed with you!
You continue to grow and develop every day. You smile a lot and continue to make eye contact and track with your eyes. I put you on your activity mat a couple times a day. It is great that you can now entertain yourself! We also put toys on your carseat handle, so you can play with them while you are in the car!
We went to Liz and Iain's for dinner last night. You slept through most of the evening....
Here you are all snuggled up and ready for dinner at the Anderson's. Drew Dean's, Grandma Oma, crocheted the blanket and hat for you!
We went out to Dunn Bro's for breakfast on Labor Day. Auntie Soni wanted you to wear a bow!
There is not much more to report, you have your Urology visit tomorrow. I hope your study goes well and you don't have to much discomfort!
I am so happy to be writing this blog at home rather than in the hospital! Lots of good things have happened since my last entry. We ended up being transferred back to Mayo on Thursday as at the point going home on IV antibiotics was no longer an option. The antibiotic you needed to be on needed to be dosed twice a day. In addition we didn't think that it was worth placing a PICC line for a relatively short time of IV antibiotics. The team you had at Mayo was wonderful, especially Dr. Phil Fischer. He was wonderful and put me and your dad at ease immediately!!! Friday morning you underwent a repeat ultrasound of your kidneys and bladder and it was essential normal! This was great news as there had been a small concern for a possible abscess on your right kidney. Due to the normal study the team thought you could safely be switched to oral antibiotcs, which meant we could take you home! So less than 24 hours after arriving at Mayo we had you back in your carseat and on your way home. You had lots of visitors during your short time at Mayo, including Dr. Park, Dr. Zietlow, Dr. Heller, Ann Leland, Michael Conte, Diana Koepp and Liz Anderson. You were very popular.
Your first evening and night back at home went really well. Grandma Lynne and Grandpa Assad came over and your dad grilled. We had a lot to celebrate!!! You have to be on antibiotics for 6 more days. You don't mind taking it. We squirt it in your mouth from a syringe and have you suck your pacifier.
You will have to undergo a special test on Tuesday to check to see if the tubes between your kidneys and bladder are normal. You will then have to see a Pediatric Urologist.
Your Grandpa Bernie is also doing much better. He is no longer in the ICU, and is awake and has even stood.
Your dad and I are emotionally and physically exhausted after the week we had, but we are happy!!!
Enough about your infection! This week has had no effect on your development. In just the last week you have become even more interactive and you will now smile in response to us. You will also tract with your eyes. Last night we put your on your activity mat for the first time and you swung at the toys. It is so fun!!!
I bought you these pants, I thought they were so cute!
Dad enjoying some precious time with you! We were just glad to have you home!
Getting ready for bed!
I am so proud of you Mayabird. You have been so tough this past week. You continue to bring joy to everyone's life on a daily basis.
